The small research group led by Junior-Prof. Julien Bachmann at the Institute of Applied Physics performed its scientific activities at the interface of physics and chemistry in Hamburg from October 2009 to September 2012. The group is now in the chemistry department of the Friedrich Alexander University of Erlangen-Nürnberg. In our research, we combine preparative tools from both fields to create well-ordered nanostructured materials featuring exquisitely defined geometry, controlled surface chemistry, and tuneable physical properties. Our teaching activities also put a particular emphasis on the commonalities and complementarities of the two sciences. This in turn is made possible by the excellence and variety of scientific backgrounds represented by the team members.
